Friday, August 2 | Getting ready to leave Ft. Smith | Paul left for home about 7:30 am. While we were packing my car, Charlie W and Cookie stopped by. They just wanted to see if everything was going OK. Charlie’s parting words were “if you need any help, just call.” These parting words sum up the attitude of the special people who live in this part of the country. We walked down town and found that most places don’t open until noon on weekends. We came back to the B&B and I slept for a couple of hours. Chris walked to the rapids to see the pelicans and met a couple from Ft. Smith. They were there with their young son, saw Chris was there by himself and came over to talk which they did for about an hour. That afternoon we walked around the town hoping to see the museum, but it was closed. I checked in with WBNP. Our last day in Ft. Smith once again revealed the magic that is Ft. Smith, Ft. Chip, Ft. Vermilion and the northern bush. It is a magic and that continues to grow and is very special. |
Saturday, August 3 | 10:30: Left Ft. Smith | We slept in this morning. Chris cooked scrambled eggs, hash browns and sausage for breakfast. We packed the rest of our stuff in the car, filled up with gas and head out of town to for Ft. Vermillion via Wood Buffalo National Park, Ft. Resolution and Ft. Providence. Not the most direct way to go, but it gave us a little more time to enjoy the Northwest Territories and northern Alberta. |
