THE TRIP |
|
Today we headed for the big, open waters of Lake Amisk. We were on the water at 7:30 before the fog had burned off. Mother Nature was with us again. Minimum wind and waves in the open water so we were able to cross to Missi Island without problem. After a stop to see the remains of on old Hudson's Bay warehouse built for the expected gold rush, we headed into the west channel. After a stop for lunch there was a breeze at our back so canoes put up the sails. We arrived at our final campsite for the trip at 2:30. It was a great 19.3-mile paddle for our last full day of canoeing.
The entire group gather around the campfire for the last time, always a bitter-sweet experience on any canoe trip. You know that it is the last evening this group will be together, but there are all those memories of special moments to share.
Sharon, Bill B and Ryan presented Wayne and Angie with the gift paddle they made with everyone's signatures. It was a fitting gift to the two people who made it all happen.
Thank you Wayne and Angie! That night Mother Nature reminded us who was in charge. The mosquitos were particularly bad and after everyone had gone to bed, intense thundner and lightening was all around us and there was a driving rain. Skeeter got up to be sure the canoes were adequately tied down. She just wanted to make sure we didn't come to expect such perfect weather on all our trips. |
