To avoid a short day canoeing followed by a day off, the decision was made to start canoeing at Ulm Bridge FAS repeating the section paddled yesterday afternoon. Once the canoes were off, Bob, manning the canoe trailer, Sharon and Bill headed for the Big Bend crew change.

Here, Bob manned the lookout while Bill and Sharon took Gene's truck and headed into Great Falls to do some necessary, and some not so necessary, shopping. Within a few miles the "low tire pressure" light went on. Sure enough, the tire was flat. The next task was to located the spare tire and figure out how to get at it. While pondering their next move, a couple from Montana Aerie sheep ranch stopped and asked if help was needed. The help was graciously accepted and before long the tire was changed and they were once again on their way to Great Falls. Montana folks at their best

Great Falls had everything needed. So with shopping compeleted, the flattened tire was headed to the "good doctor" to see if it could be saved. Mission accomplished they made it back to the crew change access well before the canoes arrived. Surely the the Ericksons would not miss their opportunity to be back on the river. With fingers crossed, Kris switched out and headed to Great Falls to check on the status of the patient. The tire was repaired and switched out with the spare currently on the truck, all for a reasonable price. With this done, the truck was waiting at the takeout when Gene arrived in the canoes.

The KOA campground in Great Falls was the Ritz Carlton of campgrounds. While the campsites were very small for a group our size, they were well equipped. A group cooking site was available on a first come, first served basis and we took advantage of it. It wasn't long before Master of the Camp, Richard, had it sparking and Sharon and Bill were put to work cooking an Italian Sausage Soup dinner. And the very nice shower house was put to good use by all. After a few long days on the river we were once again presentable when we went to a Bluegrass program in the park that evening.
