Variable weather day...traveled 12.0 miles...two hikes
  | |
The morning was sunny with a light breeze. We paddled east to the end of the bay and hiked about a mile-and-a-half looking for muskoxen...again to no avail. Back at the canoes we canoed about a half hour back west for another hike and lunch. | |
We were greeted by fresh wolverine tracks when we stopped for our second hike and lunch, but no sight of the animal. This is not unusual for wolverines as they are very elusive. The hike was shorter than the first but with the same results. As we were hiking, bad weather was appearing on the horizon and the wind started picking up. We had not sooner got on the water than we were hit with a driving rain. We headed for the west shore and shortly after we got into the more protected water, the storm subsided and we had a nice paddle to camp. While the weather subsided during the afternoon, we could see more was coming. However, it held off until the middle of the night so we had plenty of time to set up camp, eat and explore the immediate area. |
