Each year a group of friends most of whom have been associated with the Boy Scouts of American's Northern Tier National High Adventure Base, get together for a canoe trip. This year's "Old Guys" canoe trip was into the White Otter Wilderness northwest of Atikokan, Ontario. We met on Aug. 9th having driven from Manitoba, Ontario, Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin. The trip featured lots of stories and jokes, beautiful scenery, good paddling, great food and reuniting with frieds...a formula for a trip always looked forward to.

Aug. 12: A three-portage day with a nice shoot to run. We left White Otter with the first portage and then traverses Nora and Halfmoon Lake before camping where the Turtle River leaves Halfmoon Lake...more.

Aug. 13: Beautiful but hot day. Paddled through Anne Bay to "Pork Chop" Island in White Otter Lake...more.

Aug. 11: A light wind from the north greeted us as we canoed to the north end of White Otter Lake. An early arrival at our campsite gave time to visit White Otter Castle and for Tim to catch some bass for a fish taco dinner...more.

Aug. 14: We retraced part of our first day route to a campsite a short distance from tomorrow's take-out. The lakes were nearly mirror smooth...more.

Aug. 10: We were shuttled form the Boy Scouts of America's National High Adventure Base at Atikokan to the Clearwater West access. From there we paddled to White Otter Lake. Encountered some rain and wind...more.

Aug. 15: A short, quick paddle to the take-out and our shuttle to the BSA base. It was then sort equipment, shower and leave for our homes...more.
