NORTH SASKATCHEWAN RIVER - 2014

The North Saskatchewan River reunion trip carried on the magic captured by twenty paddlers on the Churchill River in 2013. Eighteen of us convened on August 18, 2014 to enjoy the "big canoes" on the North Saskatchewan. We were joined by six friends who worked ground support in addition to joining us on the water for some of the paddles.

A big Brigade Salute goes out to Merle, Deb, Ian and Marion for organizing and making this happen. Thanks also go out to all the others who helped make it happen.

Arrival day. The crew started assembling at Merle and Deb's house in the morning. We then proceeded to Timmie's in Rocky Mountain House and on to Nordegg where we stopped to gas up. The British Columbia contingent met us there and we proceeded to the primitive campsite on Abraham Lake east of the David Thompson resort.

Campsites were claimed and set up...basecamping with all, or at least some, of the "comforts of home". Campers, RVs and tents...porta-potties brought in my Dan and Joanne...but no showers...hey this is supposed to be camping! Each crew was responsible for their own meals with ample sharing and pot lucks during the week.

By evening, all had arrived and good friends were catching up on what had happened since we last saw each other. There was no question that we enjoyed renewing old friendships and it was equally clear that we were all looking forward to getting on the water tomorrow in those North Canoes.
