The second state of our March canoeing trip was Alabama. We moved from Florida to Magnolia Wildlife Recreation Area northwest of Flomation, Alabama. From there we canoed a couple stretches of the Big Escambia Creek and Little River. We then moved to Maeher State Park at Spanish Forks, AL.
The weather did not cooperate there but it did give us an extra day of geocaching. It also created a new definition of 'nuisance". Rain was forcast, but Carol said it was just a "nuisance rain" so we paddled. There was some rain at the start but it stopped shortly after we got on the Fish River. However, the heavens opened up for the last half mile...it was so bad that the canoes became unstable because of the rain water in them and we thought we might capsize. And at the take-out, the ducks were swiming in puddles in the parking lot. Soooooo, beware if Carol says it will just be a nuisance rain. |
