There is always time to canoe a river in a new state when you are on a tight schedule to get to Arizona, right? On our May trip to Montana via Arizona, we figured we had time for a small detour to Moyers, OK to canoe the Kiamichi River...arrive at the campground in the afternoon, get going early and canoe the river in the morning and then be on our way by noon.
Well that was the plan, but Mother Nature decided we needed some rain with some thunder and lightening thrown in that night, so we took our time getting going in the morning. The rain had stopped by the time we checked out and the RV park owner said he knew a section he thought we could paddle. Never to pass up such an opportunity, we took his advice. Fun paddle, but we did not leave town until five. Lets see, the song says something about "Amarillo by morning"...it was almost that when we pulled into the motel for a short night's sleep. |
