A fun day of paddling and portaging which took us through nine lakes...Cobble, Augite, Lift, Balmain, Gordon, Little Gordon, S Lake, unnamed lake and Daniels. There were eight portages, the longest was a little more than a quarter mile. Our route deviated from the one on the park map. It showed going south in S Lake to Daniels Creek. However, information found on the Internet indicated that you had to go through a lot of swamp. The northern route through S Lake and portages 8 and 9 was good. There were a couple campsites in the narrows of Daniels Lake, but we chose to head further north. Canoes: Jim and Dick, Terry and Steve, Bill and Don |

Jim's Journal | We are camped on Daniels Lake on an island with lots of rock shore. The morning started with no wind and milky clear skies. We were on the water at 8:30 a.m. Today I was with Dick in his canoe paddling the stern. We did 8 portages and 15 miles again. There just aren’t a lot of campsites. As Don said, “We go either 7 miles or 15 miles.” We met a group of girls (in their 20’s) going the same way as us: campsites could be an issue. We ate lunch on a rock island at a campsite. There was an eagle’s nest not far away with 1 eaglet in it. I took a picture or two but only at 3x power. It gets dark at 9:17 p.m. tonight. That is usually when the mosquitoes start. It is 9:00 p.m. and so far so good. Terry had spaghetti tonight all from stuff he had dried and vacuum-packed. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
