BLUE LAKE PROVINCIAL PARK
CANOE TRIP

July 16th

What Happened
It didn't take long for us to eat breakfast, break camp, move the cars to the parking area and get on the water . . . two hours at most.

We put-in on Blue Lake and in about two miles came to our first portage, an easy one to Corner Lake. It was then on to another short portage into Indian Lake where we ate lunch just north of the portage. From there we paddled north through the southern end of Edward Lake and then headed southwest through Whitney Lake into Cobble.

Our intent was to camp along the NE/SW arm of the lake, but there were no campsites available. It wasn't until we reached the intersection of the westerly arm of Cobble that we found a site (marked on Blue Lake PP map). It was eleven miles from lunch to camp; we arrived at camp about 5:45. Considering the lack of campsites along the way, this was a great one.

Today's canoeing partners were Don and Jim, Dick and Steve and Bill and Terry.

Jim's Journal It was still raining at 7:00 a.m. but only on and off. I guess we were all up by 7:30 a.m. and eating breakfast under the tarp. We all had rain gear on when we tore camp down. I’m guessing we were on the water at 9:30 a.m. The rain stopped later and it was quiet for the rest of the day. We traveled 15 miles. We didn’t want to go this far but we couldn’t find a campsite. And we are the only canoe people out here. Some wind at our backs and against us, but no white caps. We camped on a large island on Cobble Lake. We had only 2 portages today. I was in the bow with Don in his canoe. We ate the beef stroganoff I cooked, said it was for 8 people and it was too much! I had some left-over for breakfast the next morning.
