We broke our island campsite at the base, ate breakfast and loaded gear and canoes for the drive to the put-in. By 9:15 we were on the water headed to a planned for Wasp Lake campsite.
Once we left Dashwa, the route took us through a series of seven small lakes to Crowrock Lake and then to Wasp. We covered about 11 miles thru 10 lakes with 8 portages.
The first day meals on Northern Tier trips consists of fresh food. The meat for supper was chicken and Chris wanted to cook chicken nuggets...he had done it before with good results. It was a lengthy process and we had a good dinner. Unfortunately, it put a big dent in our fuel supply and we had to ration it the entire trip and cook over open fires more than planned. |
