Description Hike the two trails that pass through the Whitington Wilderness in the San Mateo Mountains located southwest of Magdalena, NM. These trails offer beautiful scenery and challenges your map and compass skills to follow the little used trails. The trail follows Potato Canyon to the ridge and Mt. Withington Lookout. It then returns through Water Canyon.

Requirements
From Magdalena, take NM 107 about 16 miles to Forest Road 52. Follow FR 52 about 3 miles to FR 56. The Trail 38 trail head is about 2.8 miles for the FR 52-FR 56 intersection.
