PECOS BALDY

17 miles

Description This trail covers varied terrain form switch-back trails at the start to hiking thru meadows and forests to hiking up mountain peaks above the timber line. The trail can be hiked by inexperienced Scouts. Big Horn Sheep are common near East Pecos Baldy. The area is heavily used.
Difficulty Moderate
Comments There is no trail to hike from East Pecos Baldy to Pecos Baldy. However, following the ridge is easy. There are some steep areas that may necessitate using hands, but rock climbing techniques are not needed. Carrying full backpacks across this ridge is not recommended. Individuals with a fear of heights may not wish to hike this portion.

There are many campsites along Jack's Creek and near Pecos Baldy Lake. However, camping IS NOT ALLOWED in the Pecos Baldy Lake basin.

The two peaks are above the timber line and are exposed. Early afternoon summer storms are common in the area and hikers should leave the mountains at the first sign of inclement weather.
