OUR 2008 DAVID THOMPSON BRIGADE SCRAPBOOK

About three hundred people participated in the 2008 David Thompson Brigade. We were fortunate to be two of four Americans to do so. As members of the Paddle Canada 2 team, we paddled in the six-man, twenty-six foot long North Canoes from the Battlefords, Saskatchewan to Old Fort William in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The Brigade commemorated David Thompson's historic trip in 1808.

Brigades have a way of grabbing hold of you and never letting go. It starts with the canoeing (forty-five strokes a minute eight to ten hours a day)...done as part of a crew (eight to eleven people, 24/7)...which is part of the brigade (over one hundred people at any given time) moving through communities along the route. Communities that welcomed us and fed us and entertained us. Pure magic. It lead to lifelong friendships and vivid memories that led to creating this webpage thirteen years later.

The pictures in our digital scrapbook are our memories from the trip. They are but one window into the Brigade and our Paddle Canada 2 crew. Included on other pages are information on David Thompson, the 2008 brigade and the Paddle Canada 2 crew. Most pictures were taken by Sharon with a few taken by fellow Brigade members.

May you enjoy our recounting of this very special event.
